Court House Introducing….Claire Fernie

Claire is our Assistant Restaurant Manager and The Court Reporter newsletter team managed to grab a quick 10 minutes with her during the very busy festive season to find out just exactly what her role involves.

CF
You’ve got 5 minutes, max.

Ok, we’ll get right to it. How did you come to be part of the Court House family?

CF
A happy accident really. I am actually a qualified hair stylist but the salon I was working for closed. I popped in to the Court House on a whim looking for some extra hours to supplement the part-time hairdressing I was doing while I looked for another more permanent stylist role.

TCR
We’re very glad you did! So what was it about The Court House that made you decide to change your career?

CF
I just loved the sense of teamwork and dealing with the customers. I found it much more rewarding and challenging. We really are just one big family. I’ve never regretted my decision.

TCR
So what does the Assistant Restaurant Manager role involve?

CF
Well, it’s really varied. I started off as a server but was always happy to take on more responsibility. The management are very open to hearing ideas from staff and to give opportunities to anyone who wants them, so it was a really easy transition.

During service, I manage the floor, the staff on duty, make sure the customers are happy and take reservations.

The rest of the time, I might be in the office arranging staff rotas, pricing out new cocktail ideas, or setting up orders with suppliers. No day is ever the same!

TCR
What is the best thing about your role here?

CF
Being part of a family of people who enjoy being here whether they are staff or customers.

TCR
And the worst?

CF
Truthfully, I’d struggle to find anything I really don’t like but the late nights can sometimes be tough.

Look out for Claire next time you are visiting us and be sure to say hello!
